Sustainable Jersey is a network of 465 municipalities and 1,061 public schools working collectively to bring about a sustainable New Jersey. Acting with state agencies, non-profits, foundations, academia, and industry, we identify best practices for what communities can do to contribute to a sustainable future. The free program culminates in the prestigious certification of municipalities and schools that have documented meeting a set of rigorous standards.
Since the launch of the municipal program in 2009 and the schools program in 2013, participants have successfully implemented and documented over 23,400 discrete actions from our list of best practices. 7.2 million dollars in grants and a wide range of technical assistance has been provided to support local government efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions and save money; become more resilient; protect natural resources; stimulate local economies; improve public health; and strive to become more equitable and inclusive.
