Founded in 1997 by Captain Bill Sheehan, Hackensack Riverkeeper works to protect, preserve and restore the Hackensack River and its 215-square mile watershed for the benefit of the people and wildlife that call it home. As such, we are a resource for ALL the communities of our watershed; we have consulted with municipalities in Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Passaic and Morris Counties in NJ and Rockland County, NY as well as New York City.
First and foremost we are a clean water advocacy organization that fulfills its mission through a fourfold straegy of environmetal action, education and litigation in addition to advocacy. In addition, we conduct environmental education programs, run active conservation activities and help ensure equitable public waterfront access for all.
We partner with the private sector as well as with our many colleagues in conservation to solve problems caused by decades of overdevelopment and unsustainable practices. Now in our 25th Anniversary year, Hackensack Riverkeeper, we continue to be a resource for any and all who seek to partner with us - and we look forward to our NEXT twenty-five years.
