About NJLM

The New Jersey State League of Municipalities (NJLM) is a voluntary association created to help communities do a better job of self-government through pooling information resources and brainpower. It is authorized by State Statute and since 1915, has been serving local officials throughout the Garden State.

NJLM represents all 564 municipalities at the State Legislature, before the state executive branch and regulatory agencies, to the media, public, and in the courts. NJLM provides members with a wide array of services, including legal assistance, individualized inquiry service, assistance in municipal labor relations, technical assistance and training, policy development, research and analysis, publications, informational and service programs, online resource centers, and advisory services.

Federal representation is also provided by NJLM, in conjunction with the National League of Cities.

Legislative Activities

The League's legislative team works daily to monitor and advocate for local government on legislation at the state and federal levels that will impact New Jersey's municipalities.

League staff report on these bills to educate the League membership, and regularly testify in front of the state legislature to advocate and advance the municipal voice. In addition to Legislative Updates via email and in the League magazine, the Legislative team keeps members up to date with the Town Crier blog.

NJ Municipalities magazine

The League publishes a magazine, NJ Municipalities, that reports up-to-the-minute information on municipal administration and procedures by practical examples, news reports, and legislative analyses. It is one of the reading "musts" for municipal officials and is sent to more than 5,000 readers each month.

Bureau of Municipal Information

In addition to the magazine, other League services include Bureau of Municipal Information; ordinances and codes; research; legislative analysis; legislative bulletins; new laws; contracts, personnel consultation; instructional seminars; and research publications.

Conference & Educational Programming

The League offers educational seminars and webinars throughout the year. The award-winning Annual League Conference is the largest gathering of municipal officials in the United States and continues to drive information and opportunity for League members.

In addition, the League holds multiple seminars and webinars to address local government officials' educational needs. Responding to the needs of the members and working with NJLM Affiliates, the education team has its finger on the pulse of information trends. To view more on seminars and an upcoming calendar, visit the League's website.

Marketing Opportunities for Vendors

The League offers many opportunities to help vendors promote their products and services to local government officials and professionals throughout the year. Some of these include participating in the League Supporter Program, advertising space on the League's website, exhibiting at the Annual League Conference to make face-to-face connections, and display advertising in the League's monthly magazine, NJ Municipalities.

Committees, Awards, & Annual Report

NJLM is powered by the insights and concerns of municipal officials and technical partners, from members of the League's boards and committees to the team of Legal Counsels

Each year, the League recognizes the efforts of local officials for their innovation, creativity, and selfless longevity in public service through its Awards Programs.

The League also reviews its efforts and outlook while acknowledging the contributions of its members in its Annual Report. For more information on the League and its activities over the last year, download NJLM's Annual Report.
