Profile

Dr. Bonventre is a member of the Division of Science and Research (DSR) at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), where she is a Research Scientist who assesses the potential human health effects of environmental chemicals. Her main role is to assist all of NJDEP’s program areas with inquiries related to human health, toxicology, and exposures to ensure that NJDEP decision-making is based on sound science. Josie co-edited the Climate Change Impacts of Human Health & Communities supplement to the NJDEP’s 2020 Scientific Report on Climate Change in New Jersey. She also coordinates DSR’s outreach efforts through social media. Prior to joining the NJDEP in 2020, Josie was a Postdoc and Research Associate at Oregon State University and spent a year working as an Environmental Toxicology Consultant. She received her doctorate in toxicology from the Joint Graduate Program in Toxicology at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 2012.
