Sustainable Jersey is a network of 460 municipalities and 1,025 public schools working collectively to bring about a sustainable New Jersey. Acting with state agencies, non-profits, foundations, academia, and industry, we identify best practices for what communities can do to contribute to a sustainable future. The free program culminates in the prestigious certification of municipalities and schools that have documented meeting a set of rigorous standards.
Since the launch of the municipal program in 2009 and the schools program in 2013, participants have successfully implemented and documented over 17,000 discrete actions from our list of best practices. 6.5 million dollars in grants have been awarded to support their efforts. By addressing climate change, educating for sustainability, stimulating local economies, increasing resiliency, and advancing social justice, Sustainable Jersey is empowering communities to build a better world for future generations.
