Michèle S. Delisfort is a small business owner and the Mayor of the Township of Union. She was instrumental in bringing her expertise in City Planning to the governing body. This helped sparked approximately $500 million in redevelopment investment for the township, physical improvements to the commercial corridors, increased public safety and road repairs throughout the township and implemented policy initiatives that will beautify the towns downtown, parks and public spaces. Additionally, Mayor Delisfort is a strong proponent of community engagement and is skilled at working with residents, stakeholders and business owners towards building consensus that are reflective of the community’s vision. Accordingly, this year, the Township adopted a new Master Plan to articulate practical recommendations to enrich existing issues over the next ten years, which won the Statewide award for the outstanding plan of the year from the NJ Planning Officials. Recipient of the 2021 Mayor of the Year Award, by the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor is consistently working to enhance the township and continues to maintain strong collaborations with major players, like Kean University. Mayor Delisfort’s outstanding leadership was again evident over the past 18-months as she worked tirelessly to oversee and coordinate the Township of Union’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her efforts during this period helped residents and businesses navigate the continually changing landscape, ensuring the Township’s unwavering support in enduring the local impacts of the pandemic. Mayor Delisfort is committed to being strategic about development initiatives, responsive to residents and the business community, and thoughtful and proactive about addressing quality of life issues in the Township of Union.
